Tuscany
is the garden of Europe, a mystical land of art, culture, history and
music.
A land of varied landscapes, from the rolling hills of the south to the
steep rugged mountains of the north, with its small hamlets perched on
top. Its Cypress tree lined avenues and roads and the many colours of
Tuscany will enthral you with their beauty.
You will never forget the smell of Tuscany, this the original home of
haute cuisine, and of fine wines and Olive Oil.
Florence, its capital, boasts a stunning Cathedral (Duomo), with its famous
dome by the great 15th century architect Brunelleschi. It is the cradle
of the Renaissance, home to Botticelli, Donatello, Da Vinci, Michelangelo
to name but a few, who made this the artistic and cultural light of the
world.
The Ponte Vecchio, spanning the river Arno, has goldsmiths' shops producing
fine quality jewelry.
The Uffizi, Pitti Palace, museums holding some of the finest art collections
in the world. The Palazzo Vecchio a masterpiece of 14th century architecture
and symbol of Florence, with a copy of Michelangelo’s David.
According to DH Lawrence , Tuscany became “the perfect centre of
man's universe”.
Poets like Shelley, Milton, Byron, and writers such as Stendhal, DH Lawrence,
Dostoyevsky, have been seduced by the beauty of Tuscany.
The Gothic city of Siena, Florence’s great historical rival, caught
in a time warp, with its Palio (horse race) taking place twice a year
in the Piazza del Campo.
Pisa with its bell tower, leaning as it has since its construction and
the Cathedral (Duomo) with Baptistery.
On to Lucca, the jewel in the Tuscan crown, known as the little Paris,
this ancient Republic with its walls guarding the old city and its treasures.
Going through the small streets with its old boutiques and shops, the
many towers and churches, you cannot help but feel like you are transported
into the past.
Tuscany is a land like no other, called the real California, the land
of dreams, colours, enchantment, inhabited by the Etruscans, the Romans,
birthplace of the Renaissance to today, when time seems to stand still,
its beauty is the stuff of dreams, home to beauty, both natural and man-made.
